The state of Texas poverty rate is above the national rate. One out of every 6.2 residents of Texas lives in poverty. Dallas is an expanding city and its poverty sits slightly above the national poverty percentage as seen in figure 2 below.

The youth needs the community more than ever. Sadly, the group living in the most poverty are ages 0 to 6 years old. What can we do to change these statistics?

Summary

From this analysis we can see that women and children under the age of 6 years old suffer from poverty at a higher rate than other categories. In addition, black people have the highest percentage of poverty. Overall Dallas and Houston poverty rates were higher than the national poverty rates.
